Because I wont be in class tomorrow, Matt told me to upload my skethces to the blog. These are three pretty rough sketches I had for my website. Right now I am not really happy with one in particular, so I might now use any of these. I tried to model them after some other magazine websites I was looking at.

Since I wont be in class tomorrow, Matt asked me to post my basic website sketch due in class. This is a very basic sketch of what it will look like. I am doing it as an electronic version of my magazine cover we did for our first assignment. The top banner will look alot like my magazine banner, along with the current magazine cover in the right corner. Along the left side I am going to have three links that contain three stories relevent to my magazine. In the center of the main page I am planning on having a big picture that has something to do with goalies. I havent chose the picture yet, and probably still have to take it at the next Flyers game I attend. This is just a basic sketch and still has a long way to go.

So, this is my newspaper. I wanted to make a sports page, and this was the final result. I used pictures that my neighbor back home gave me. What I tried to do is make it a Central Pennsylvania newspaper, because that is where I am from and it gave me the widest range to work with. All the articles I used I found online, not all of them are timely. The only problem I had was that the computer I used to post my newspaper to the web, couldn't find two of my fonts. So, what you are looking at isn't totally correct. Any comments/feedback/girls numbers/hate mails are greatly appreciated. THANKS!

Ok, so here is my newspaper. During Spring break I was in Walt Disney World for ESPN the weekend and had the idea to do my newspaper on that. I tried to take pictures that I could relay into stories. I wrote all the articles and took all the pictures. It is supposed to be a Disney sports section of a Disney newspaper. In reality Disney probably would not make a sport section because there is not a weekly flow of sports news that comes out of Walt Disney World. So I just got creative and used my imagination. Enjoy.

Oops. Noticed some problems after I uploaded the image. They are now fixed...I hope.

I wanted to do a sort of alternative newspaper for Temple, though our student newspaper is pretty good about having interesting articles. The design is more tabloid style with more pictures than a more serious newspaper, which was probably a lot more fun to design.

NEWSPAPER LAYOUT DIRECTIONS

FOR YOUR PROJECT: The photos, headlines and cutlines should work together. If you have a photo of the Phillies then your headline and cutline should match what is going on in the photo. You can get creative but if you have a sports picture you should not have a headline about plants or anything like that.

Sizes:
Broadsheet = 21.5” high x 14” wide
Tabloid = 14” high x 11” wide

Columns:
Broadsheet = 5-6 columns
Tabloid = 4-5 columns
∑ Remember that columns aren’t set in stone. You can experiment here.

TEXT
-Stories are on average 12 inches (so the book says) but each leg would be between 2 and 20 inches.
Stories can be borrowed from other publications as long as you credit the correct writer and publication. It's up to you to gather the text. That means if you have to retype it then retype it. Put the proper Byline on each story.

PHOTOS
-Photos are mainly horizontal rectangles because that’s the way we see. The other shapes are vertical rectangles and a square, which is rarely used but does work sometimes.
-Photos, like stories, are up to you to find. Hi-Resolution photos can be pulled from whatever publication you want, just credit the proper source and photographer. This means if the credit in the paper says 'David Maialetti / Daily News' then your paper should say 'David Maialetti / Daily News'.
